Kiva performs International Polyphonic Festival of Albania, May /08

The second annual International Polyphonic Festival of Albania took place in May /08 in the ancient ruins of Bylis. The site dates back 3000 years. The theatre itself was used by Romans in the 3rd century BC, with some of the original seating intact.
This festival was created to maintain and promote the unique and ancient polyphonic singing styles of Albanian choirs. Kiva was invited as one of three foreign participants, the others being from Greece and Sardegna (Tenores di Bitti). The Albanians considered it unusual for Kiva, as a soloist, to sing in a polyphonic style, as it suggests more than one voice singing simultaneously. Then they understood when she sang with overtones how this could be done. She also used her computer setup here, which was in stark contrast to the ancient setting!
